What a relief: Herman Von Rompuy and Baroness Ashton chosen for the EU Presidency and representative for foreign affairs respectively. William Langley of the Telegraph describes them as a " pair of nonentities" but I'd rather have the devoutly Catholic Von Rompuy and boring Baroness Ashton at the top than the "Prancing Prince" called Blair and the "swollen headed Milliband" as his cohort.(My quotes).
Can you imagine Tony Blair as President of the EU? I can. A man carried away by his own glamour and self-importance. A man who would take self-importance to its peak.As Middle East Envoy he has achieved no results or even given hope to the Palestine cause. AS EU President he would probably achieve little else than buying a palace. As for Milliband: no comment, but Hillary likes him.
What Europe needs is the two dullards voted in. Few major changes are expected from EU policy and it is likely that the conditions for exporting radishes shall remain in place. Cheese makers will rejoice and cod fishing will not be reduced too much.
Soft changes are what I like. After all Britain is not as European as you may think.
